A Place at the Table
Funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive – Homelessness Prevention Fund
A Place at the Table is a warm, inclusive project delivered by Life Change Changes Lives to support people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or living in unsafe, overcrowded, or unsuitable accommodation.
The project provides practical help alongside emotional and social support, recognising that homelessness is closely linked to food poverty, trauma, poor mental health, addiction, and social isolation.
Through the project we offer:
Regular hot meals in a welcoming, non-judgemental space, with additional take-home food portions to reduce food insecurity at home
Inclusive cookery sessions, using low-cost ingredients and simple appliances (such as microwaves and air fryers), designed for people living in temporary or shared accommodation
Benefits advice and housing support, helping people understand their entitlements and housing options
Trauma-informed emotional support, including peer mentoring, counselling, and creative therapy
Online cookery videos and recipes, allowing people who cannot attend in person to benefit from the sessions at home
The project is open to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, including people seeking asylum, those in temporary accommodation, sofa surfers, and people whose health or wellbeing is being negatively affected by their current living situation.
At its heart, A Place at the Table is about dignity, inclusion, and prevention — ensuring people have access not only to food, but to connection, skills, support, and a sense of belonging, before crisis point is reached.
